Simulating the soluble microbial products in a membrane bioreactor system and their impact on membrane fouling

چکیده
Introduction MBRs (membrane bioreactors) are a recent innovation of the activated sludge process, which eliminates many constraints associated with the traditional gravity settling. Nevertheless, it suffer membrane fouling. The colloidal and macromolecular fraction of MBR sludge has been reported as the main foulant of MBR systems. SMP can be classified into BAP (biomass associated products) and UAP (utilization associated products) according to their sources (Namkung and Rittmann (1986)). However, the quantification of SMP in a MBR system under various operation conditions remains a challenge. The goal of this study is to: (i) model the SMP production and degradation in MBR systems and (ii) study the filterability of SMP.

In this work, the performance of organic pollutant removal, membrane fouling and sludge morphology in a submerged membrane bioreactor (MBR) treating sunflower oil refinery wastewater (SORW) containing high oleic content was studied during 52 days’ operation at short values of 18 h and 10 days for hydraulic retention time and sludge retention time, respectively. The removal efficiencies of chemi...

The term 'membrane bioreactor' expresses a combination of activated sludge and membrane separation processes. The need to processes like sedimentation and disinfection used in common methods is eliminated through MBR systems in a way that membranes are placed into or out of an aeration tank and the vacuumed wastewater created by the suction pump is pulled up from inside the membranes and leaves...
